Emily Barr

Meet Emily:

Emily is a PhD candidate in the Faculty of Health Sciences at SFU and BCCHRI who joined the Dennis lab in 2023, already a few years into her program. When she’s not hard at work at her computer, she spends her time hiking with her dog, playing tabletop and boardgames, reading sci-fi and fantasy, and simply adventuring with friends.

More about her work in the Dennis Lab:

Her research connects developmental theory, psychology, and the molecular mechanisms underlying each, with an interest in how experiences of stress early in life (such as growing up low socioeconomic status, dealing with peer victimization, and chaotic family dynamics) can impact an individual’s epigenetics. Specifically, she focuses on the bioinformatic analysis of DNA methylation, investigating polyepigenetic scores and mQTLs.
